How Jesus Taught Us to Live a Godly Life – The Biblical Blueprint for Christian Living

"How do I live a godly life?" Millions of Christians ask this very question. But here’s the good news: Jesus didn’t leave us guessing. He showed us exactly how to live a life that pleases God. Not just in His sermons, but in every step, word, and moment of His life on earth.

So let’s go straight to the source, the Bible, and unpack how Jesus taught us to live a godly life.

  1. Start with the Heart – Love God First
When asked what the greatest commandment was, Jesus said:
"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." – Matthew chapter 22 verse 37
Godly living starts with loving God deeply and personally. It’s not about performing for others or ticking religious boxes. It’s about heart-level devotion. If we don’t get this part right, everything else falls apart.

  2. Follow Him – Literally
Jesus never said, “Admire me.” He said:
"Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me." – Luke chapter 9 verse 23
A godly life means walking in Jesus’ footsteps daily. That includes humility, sacrifice, obedience, and yes, even suffering when necessary. Following Jesus isn’t always easy, but it’s always worth it.

  3. Live with Integrity – Be the Same in Private and Public
Jesus constantly exposed hypocrisy. He said:
"Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them." – Matthew chapter 6 verse 1
Godly living means being real and authentic in both private and public. Jesus valued purity of heart over public praise. He wants Christians to be the same behind closed doors as they are on Sunday mornings.

  4. Serve Others – Not Just Yourself
In John chapter 13, Jesus washed His disciples' feet. Let that sink in. The Son of God bent down and did a servant’s job.
"I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you." – John chapter 13 verse 15
Serving others with humility is central to Christian living. Whether it’s helping the needy, encouraging someone, or just being available, Jesus taught that greatness in the kingdom comes through serving.

  5. Stay Connected to the Word and Prayer
Jesus didn’t just preach the Word, He was the Word (John chapter 1 verse 1). But He still prayed often and quoted Scripture constantly. If He needed to stay connected to God through prayer and Scripture, how much more do we?
"Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God." – Matthew chapter 4 verse 4
If you want to live a godly life, the Bible must become your daily bread, not your emergency snack.

Living a godly life isn’t about perfection, it’s about direction. And Jesus is that direction. His life is the blueprint for Christian living. If we truly want to live in a way that honors God, we don’t need to reinvent the wheel. We just need to look to Jesus.
"Whoever claims to live in Him must live as Jesus did." – 1 John chapter 2 verse 6
Follow His teachings. Reflect His love. And walk in His steps.
Because Jesus didn’t just tell us how to live a godly life, He showed us.
